Nouakchott Summit: Broad Participation and Busy Agenda

Nouakchott, 29 June 2020 (AMI)- Nouakchott hosts, on 30 June, a summit dedicated to following up on the road map of the Pau Summit, with the participation of the leaders of the G-5 Sahel countries and France, as well as high-level international figures.
The summit is scheduled to be held under the joint chairmanship of His Excellency the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, and His Excellency French President Emmanuel Macron, who will be in Nouakchott tomorrow, as confirmed by a statement of the French Foreign Ministry.
Besides the two presidents on the table will be the G-5 Sahel heads of state, Prime Minister of Spain, the head of the African Union Commission and the Secretary General of La Francophonie, while the Chancellor of Germany, the Prime Minister of Italy, the President of the European Commission and the Secretary General of the United Nations will participate remotely.
The opening speech will be made by the President of the Republic, the President-in-Office of the G-5 Sahel, and then the floor will be given to the French President followed by the President of Chad, the Prime Minister of Spain and the President of Niger. The European Commission President will address the participants via videoconference, before giving the floor to the Malian President, then to the German Chancellor via videoconference. Then the President of Burkina Faso will make his speech before the summit. After that, the Prime Minister of Italy will intervene via videoconference, and then the President of the African Union Commission and the Secretary General of La Francophonie will be allowed to intervene directly before the Secretary-General of the United Nations intervenes by videoconference.
After completing the speeches and discussions, the final communiqué will be read by the Executive Secretary of the G-5 Sahel, after being approved. The summit is scheduled to be concluded on the evening of the same day with a speech by the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, before a final news conference is held.
