President of Republic and Chadian Counterpart review issues related to fight against terrorism
N’Djamena, 16/02/2021
During this press conference, the two presidents reviewed the issues related to the fight against terrorism in the region, particularly those related to the sustainable funding of the G5 joint force.
Responding to a question related to the sustainable funding of the G5 joint force, the president Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani said:
“Indeed, it is a pertinent question which poses the vital issue of the indispensable funding of the G5 Sahel joint force. In this regard, many achievements have been made through the participation of some partners, including the European Union and other countries. It is the occasion to thank them and point out that these efforts are insufficient; we still lack equipment to be more operational, which is expected from this force. Therefore, the G5 Sahel joint force should be more operational so that it can have more results on the ground. This Is very important.
Regarding the G5 Sahel countries, they have done a lot in relation to the means and resources at their disposal. The units, which make up the G5 Sahel Joint force, are the best units, highly equipped and meticulously selected. We wish that the partners ‘support to be more consistent”.
The Chadian President Idriss Gibi Aitno declared that under the leadership of His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazwani, the results obtained on the ground were positive with regard to the fight against terrorism in the Sahel countries.
With regard to funding, the President Idriss Gibi Aitno said that there are funds obtained directly from Chad to support our soldiers on the ground and there are additional resources allocated to military equipment and development because the fight against terrorism is not only a military action, it is rather a comprehensive operation.
