G-5 Sahel Heads of State call for a return to constitutional order in Mali

Nouakchott , 18 August 2020 -The Heads of State of the G-5 Sahel have urged the Malian brothers to follow the path of peaceful dialogue to resolve current internal problems in the interest of their country and that of the entire sub-region.
In a press statement released on 18 August, they demanded the immediate and unconditional release of His Excellency President Ibrahima Boubacar Keita, Prime Minister Boubou Cissé, members of his government, and all those arrested.
Here is the full text of the press statement:
"*G-5 Sahel Press Statement on Mali. *
The President in office of the G-5 Sahel is following in close consultation with his counterparts heads of state of member countries and with great concern the serious events that occurred on 18 August in Mali.
Given this acute crisis situation, the G-5 Heads of State would like to express their unwavering attachment to constitutional order and to the respect of democratically established institutions.
In this regard, they demand the immediate and unconditional release of His Excellency President Ibrahima Boubacar Keita, Prime Minister Boubou Cissé, members of his government, and all those arrested.
They urge the Malian brothers to follow the path of peaceful dialogue to resolve current internal problems in the interest of their country and that of the entire sub-region.
They reaffirm their readiness to help the Malian brothers achieve a peaceful settlement of this extremely serious crisis".
