CNDH Praises Mauritanian Efforts in Fight against Slavery

The National Commission for Human Rights(CNDH) thanked the Mauritanian governments for the efforts made in the fight against slavery. Such efforts were also hailed by the last American report on human trafficking and by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The Chairperson of the National Committee for Human Rights, Mr. Ahmed Salem Ould Bouhoubeyni, said that the committee works to raise awareness of the criminal nature of slavery in remote areas of the country through its caravans. The minister stated that they developed,in partnership with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, a mechanism to investigate every reported case of slavery.

He noted that the commission would firmly deal with anyone turning a blind eye on slavery or trying to exploit it politically or financially.
