President of Republic Receives Head of MINUSMA

On 9 November, the President of the Republic, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, received, at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott, Mr. El-Ghassim Wan, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Mali, Head of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA).

The meeting was attended by the Director of the Cabinet of the President of the Republic, Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Ould Mohamed Lemine, Messrs. Yahya Ould Kebd and Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Lemat, Officers in Charge of Special Duties at the Presidency of the Republic, and General Philippe Poty, the MINUSMA Force Commander.
Soon after the meeting, the head of MINUSMA said he was honored to be received by the President of the Republic during the contact visit he is currently making to Mauritania after he was appointed head of MINUSMA.

He indicated that the meeting was the occasion for a fruitful exchange and that MINUSMA salutes the contribution of Mauritania, which is highly appreciated. He said that his current visit is of great importance because Mauritania is a member of the international mediation, which supports the implementation of the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation t in Mali, signed in Algiers.
He added that it is also an active member of the G-5 Sahel, a neighbor of Mali with which it shares a long border.

He added that all those factors naturally lead to going to Mauritania and meeting officials there, particularly the President of the Republic, to inform him of the efforts of MINUSMA and the support that it provides to the G-5 Sahel.
