Mauritania Commemorates the United Nations Day

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, and Mauritanians Abroad, commemorated on Monday, in Nouakchott, for the first time, the United Nations International Day, which falls on October 24 of each year.

The ministry commemorated the day in the framework of Mauritanian diplomacy's concerns with international issues, as a way to achieve the goals of peace and human development.

In a speech on the occasion of this ceremony, the Ambassador, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad, Mr. Ahmed Sidi Ahmed Ejje, said that this ceremony, organized by the Ministry for the first time in commemoration of the United Nations Day, is part of the approved public diplomacy activities for the year 2021.

On his part, the Coordinator of the United Nations Programs in Mauritania, Mr. Anthony Ohemeng- Boamah, in a speech on behalf of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, expressed his pleasure at the commemoration of the Mauritanian government represented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for this day.

He added that this initiative reflects the extent of Mauritania's commitment within the United Nations system through the reforms it has followed in order to achieve comprehensive freedom, noting that Mauritania has been a member of this organization since October 27, 1961.

Moreover, the ceremony was marked by the inauguration of a photo exhibition organized on this occasion. It was attended by the Chairman of the Diplomatic Academy Committee, the Director General of Multilateral Cooperation.
