International Scientific Symposium on Banc d'Arguin National Park

A scientific symposium under the theme: "Crossed views on Banc d'Arguin National Park (PNBA)" was opened on 13 July via videoconference.
The three-day event, which is organized by the Banc d'Arguin Park in cooperation with the European Union and the MAVA Foundation, will discuss topics including biodiversity,conservation; sustainable development,bird migration ,climate change and other related issues.
There will be forty presentations by experts from Portugal, Holland, Spain, United Kingdom and local researchers from high education and research center, Nouakchott university; national office for fisheries distribution and national weather office .
The Minister Secretary General of the Government, Niang Djibril Hamadi, hailed the efforts made by the PNBA to mitigate the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on its future projects and its work program for 2020 .
He added that these efforts are made under the instructions of His Excellency the President of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani.
Mr. Niang Djibril also stressed that this meeting will discuss issues and topics related to the analysis of the status of the Gulf of Banc d'Arguin through the evaluation of the natural environment, ecological, economic diversity and governance.
He explained that the meeting is the sresult of efforts made by teams of national and international researchers over four decades of studies of the socio-ecological systems of this natural park.
The Minister Secretary General of the Government stressed that the symposium will inevitably consolidate the conclusions of the research conducted in 1994 and the scientific workshop on the functioning of ecosystems organized in 2018 in Iwig and will also serve the ten-year scientific strategy 2020-2030 which will be approved by the Park's scientific council on 15 July 2020.
The secretary general thanked the MAVA Foundation and the European Union for their constant support for the PNBA's efforts.
